The Marangu Route, nicknamed the “Coca-Cola Route”, is the oldest and most established trail on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the only route with hut accommodations instead of tents, offering a more comfortable experience.
About Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb
The Marangu Route, also known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the oldest and most popular trail on Kilimanjaro. It is the only route offering hut accommodations with beds and meals, making it a more comfortable option. Starting on the southeastern side, the trail passes through rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert before the final push to Uhuru Peak. While it is the shortest and most direct path to the summit, the limited acclimatization time makes it more challenging.
Marangu Route Highlights
- Stay in mountain huts with beds and meals provided
- Trek through lush rainforest, heath, and alpine desert landscapes
- Pass by the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks with dramatic views
- Reach Gilman’s Point and push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)
- Enjoy the fastest, most direct route back down
